Imam Dr Shafiq Flynn

 

Personal Background

Imam Dr Shafiq Flynn was born and raised in New Zealand. His family was an active member of the Muslim societies in Hamilton and Rotorua. He has spent more than half his like abroad in South East Asia and Africa. Imam Dr Shafiq is married to Sr Shirlina Harris and has two boys named Ibrahim and Farouk. They relocated to Brisbane in 2016 and are now living in Gold Coast and active members to the Gold Coast Muslim community.

Educational Background

Imam Dr Shafiq Flynn has earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage (Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He also completed his Master degree in the same field from IIUM. Prior to that, he completed a Diploma in Arabic and a Bachelor degree in Islamic Studies (Dirasat al-Islamiyyah) from the Faculty of Shariah, International African University, Khartoum Sudan. Prior to that, Imam Dr Shafiq briefly attended Pesantren (madrasah) in Jakarta and Sumbawa, Indonesia. He speaks English, Arabic and Malay. 

Teaching Experience


Imam Dr Shafiq has lectured and worked at Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah International Islamic University, Malaysia, International Islamic University Malaysia, Al-Madinah International University, Malaysia, Knowledge International University, Riyadh, and Al-Rushd Institute, Brisbane. He has also presented papers in International Conferences and Symposiums in Malaysia, Brunei and Japan.
